It is a vast region of ionized hydrogen located in the constellation Monoceros (the Unicorn). Its distinctive shape results from the action of ultraviolet radiation and stellar winds produced by the young open cluster NGC 2244, situated at its center. Spanning approximately 100 light-years in diameter, this nebula is one of the most impressive star-forming regions in our galaxy, where new stars continue to be born from dense clouds of gas and dust.
