LBN 673 is a dark nebula located in the constellation Aquila, approximately 600 light-years away. Unlike bright emission nebulae such as the Heart Nebula (photo 2), it is a dense cloud of cosmic dust that blocks light from background stars, creating dark patches in the sky. Its structure contains cold gas and dust grains composed of carbon and silicates, which serve as raw material for the birth of new stars. It is a region rich in new star formation and is part of a major object known as IC 1848—also called the Soul Nebula—located in the constellation Cassiopeia, 7,500 light-years from Earth.
