It is a region of ionized hydrogen located in the constellation Cygnus and is part of the same molecular complex as the nearby NGC 7000 (North America Nebula), separated from it by dense clouds of interstellar dust. Intense ultraviolet radiation emitted by young, massive stars ionizes the hydrogen gas, producing the characteristic reddish glow observed in this star-forming region.
