Located in the constellation Cygnus, these nebulae are two emission regions separated by a dark dust cloud. They are named the North America Nebula and the Pelican Nebula due to their resemblance to those familiar shapes. Both are part of a vast star-forming region where ionized gas glows intensely under the influence of hot, young stars.
