Known as the “Comet of the Century”, this comet originated in the Oort Cloud and was discovered in 2023 by observatories in China and South Africa. It was photographed on 17 October 2024, shortly after reaching its peak brightness.
Despite being very low on the horizon and under strong moonlight, it had an apparent magnitude of around 2 and displayed a long dust tail, as well as a faint anti-tail. At the time it was photographed, it was beginning to move away towards the outer regions of the Solar System.
