LBN 673 is a dark nebula located in the constellation of Aquila, approximately 600 light-years away. Unlike bright emission nebulae such as the Heart Nebula (image 2), it is a dense cloud of cosmic dust that blocks the light from background stars, creating dark patches in the sky.
Its filamentary structure contains cold gas and dust grains composed of carbon and silicates, which serve as the raw material for the birth of new stars. It is a region rich in star formation and is part of the larger structure associated with IC 1848, also known as the Soul Nebula, in the constellation of Cassiopeia, approximately 7,500 light-years from Earth.
