These nebulae, located in the constellation of Cygnus, are two emission regions separated by a dark cloud of dust. They are known as the North America Nebula and the Pelican Nebula due to their resemblance to these familiar shapes.
Both are part of a vast star-forming region, where ionized gas glows intensely under the influence of young, hot stars.
