Possibly one of the most photographed and well-known regions of the sky, the Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) and its companion, the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024), are part of the Orion molecular cloud complex.
The Horsehead is visible in silhouette due to its contrast against the emission nebula IC 434.
