The Eagle Nebula is an emission nebula located in one of the Milky Way’s spiral arms, acting as a vast “stellar nursery” where new stars are born and dense regions of gas and dust (Bok globules) accumulate. It is illuminated by the young star cluster M16.
In 1995, the Hubble Space Telescope revealed the famous “Pillars of Creation”, columns of dense material that withstand the intense radiation from young stars. This iconic image has inspired generations of enthusiasts, and today, similar structures can already be captured with amateur equipment.
